This is an unused cover of a podcast that I was hired to
design. The problem was that the name “What Goes
Up” had already been taken, but by the time I heard
about it, I was unavailble to redesign the cover. The
podcast was renamed “Inside the Aluminum Tube”
and the cover designed by another artist.

But I’ll still talk about my progress with the cover anyways.
The host of the podcast, Shanon Baker, is an actual
pilot for Delta, and this podcast is about all of the
things that could go wrong and bring a plane down,
but in a cheeky and fun fashion.

To keep things from getting too dark, we decided
to make the focal point a crashed paper airplane instead
of a real one. I encorporate a dotted flight path
as a means of strengthening the composition as well
as helping establish the tone for the podcast. I also
thought that it would be fun to have the “P” in “UP”
also be an arrow pointing down.

This is one of my favorite peices, so it’s a shame that it
never saw the light of day!
